Johann Samuel Mock (c. 1687–1737), German painter, active in Dresden and from c. 1723 in Warsaw; 1731 court painter to August II. A military camp organized on the order of King August II in the village of Czerniaków near Warsaw. The encampment comprised contingents of foreign forces, the Polish-Saxon Gentlemen-at-Arms and Saxon armies. Manoeuvres of this type were conducted to check the skills of the commanders and soldiers, as well as to train them in new methods of combat and the use of new weapons.
