Melas prayer rug

Author unknown

On the white central field, small relative to the border, there is a red mihrab composed of a pentagonal form with a triangular dent at the bottom, topped by an angular version of the horseshoe arch surmounted by an arrow and cross. Around, a few geometric figures: triangles with small rectangles and diamonds on the edges, filling the “dents" at the base and in the side edges of the niche. In the spandrels: triangles with pendants and ornaments resembling vases with two handles. We warmly invite you to become more acquainted with full description of this rug published in “Prayer Rugs Collection catalogue" by Katarzyna Połujan (Teresa Sahakian Foundation, The Royal Castle in Warsaw – Museum), Warsaw 2015.
