Covered Goblet
Menzel, Johann Sigismund (1744-1810) (warsztat)
ZKW/393/ab
The goblet is typical of the vessels made by the workshop of Johann Sigismund Menzel, a glass engraver active in Cieplice in Silesia in the late 18th century. Neoclassical goblets and wineglasses were made in his workshop and decorated with double-wall medallions. The personages portrayed included members of the Schaffgotsch family, which made a considerable contribution to the development of glassware in the Lower Silesian region. Some of Menzel’s work is signed and dated.
