AUGUST II Friedrich August I (1670–33) of the Wettin dynasty, Elector of Saxony (1694), King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania (reg 1697–1706 and 1709–33) as August II the Strong. In 1705 he established the Order of the White Eagle. Oval within a rectangle. The King is shown bust length, with an a la lion wig, an unbuttoned lined jacket over a cuirass and wearing an Order riband. Star of the Danish Order of the Elephant awarded in 1686 on left chest. The quotation on the engraving is by Gerardus Outhof (1673–1733) a scholar and poet. When making the engraving Schenk may have based on the engraving by Elias Christoph Heiss (1660–1731) after David Hoyer (1670–1720). Inscribed: above the portrait is an inscription along the upper part of the oval frame “TRIUMPHANS AMPLECTITUR PACEM" inscription under portrait: FRIDERICUS AUGUSTUS, POLON: REX SAXON: DUX ET ELECT:" below are four lines of a verse: Zie hier Augustus door Schenks konstig hand gemaaldt./ Die, schoon hy ridderrlyk de zege had behaaldt./ Nogtans uit Liefde voor zyn land en onder zaaten/ Den vrede omhelsdt tot heyl en rust van zyne Staaten./ Gerardus Outhof.".
