One of a series of 22 portraits of Polish kings commissioned for the Marble Room at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The painting is listed in the 1795 catalogue of the Stanisław August collection under no. 1163. Jogaila (1348–1434), Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1377, King of Poland (reg. 1386–1432) as Władysław II Jagiełło. Inscribed on the back: Nro 7/ VLADISLAVS/ JAGIELLO/ Magnus DUX Lithvaniae/ Regnare coepit qua Rex Poloniae/ eodem die quô nupsit Hedvigi,/ d: 14. Febr: Ao 1386. Lithvaniam/ adjunxit Poloniae. Academiam/ Cracoviensem erexit. Crucigeros/ fregit, Nobilem nullum nisi Iu=/re victum captivare appromisit./ Obijt in Oppido Grodek./ d. 31 Maij. Ao 1434/ Aetatis suae, 80./ Regni, 48. The marble plaque beneath the painting is inscribed: VLADISLAUS JAGIELLO/ + MCCCCXXXIV.
